18/03/2011
Roll up, roll up, bag a bargain today. Exceptional offers, don’t miss out. Great BMV offers this month.
Surprisingly we’re not in the veg section of Devizes market but these are the cries of the same property spivs who were pedalling toxic buy to let deals four years ago.

Bullish Lettings
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
The latest RICS Residential Lettings Survey has just been released which shows that demand for rental accommodation is increasing at its fastest rate since the end of 2008. The focus of demand from tenants is slightly in favour of houses rather than flats although there are likely to be rental increases for both categories over the coming months.

House Price Guess Work
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
There are currently over 20 established indices reporting house price movements in the UK. The government is now streamlining its own house price reporting in 2011. Consumer confidence has become so intertwined with property values that an investigation is underway as to the effectiveness of the data compiled from the Land Registry and the Department for Communities and Local Government. These two indices supply information on pricing and mortgage completions respectively..

Green Deal Makes Landlords See Red
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
Christmas is over, long live the fricassee. The credit card bill dents the door mat but after such extended excesses belt tightening is twice as painful. I’m sure I’m not alone but how many guys are heading straight for the thermostat when they get home and turn it down from 30 to 19 degrees? That reassuring click as the exhausted boiler finally falls silent and my neurosis over the oil bill subsides. .

Localism - What is it?
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
There’s a lot of hot air surrounding the term ‘Localism’. Grant Shapps, the housing minister, hopes to “make the country a better place to live” just as the Miss World contestants wanted to “make the world a better place”. So what exactly is localism ?.

Wikileaks and the special Relationship
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
If Wikileaks were to turn its attention to the darker corners of the property world, what would come to light ? In reality the thought of a disgruntled employee from a large corporate estate agent dumping millions of internal emails for public consumption is rather underwhelming . The Guardian have picked through endless US government files and come out with the sensational bits. I use the word ‘sensational’ in the loosest possible way. There’s nothing really there that we didn’t already know.

Property Portals
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
The internet increasingly rules our lives and the nation’s obsession with property has spawned a multitude of portals, websites and chat rooms. Information on value is freely available from the trusted Land Registry or the sage in the back bedroom. If I was to stand in court arguing over a contentious valuation which was based on the findings of Zoopla mixed in with a bit of Mouseprice, then the judge would quite rightly dismiss my endeavours..

Cut Wisely
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
There was a much used photo opportunity last week of Grant Shapps, the housing minister, Kirsty Allsop and other B list property types ripping off red tape that had been wrapped around a large model house. The message was to signal the end of regulatory constraints such as HIPs and the compulsory registration of landlords and letting agents..

Let and Run
Weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
In June I mentioned that Grant Shapps, the coalition’s housing minister, had scrapped plans to regulate letting agents. It was considered at the time that blanket regulation was unnecessary which also fitted in to the publicity stunts about cutting red tape. .

Service !
weekly article written by George Humphreys MRICS
18/03/2011
I sold a well known Wiltshire hotel last week which sadly had slipped into the hands of the receivers. Sign of the times you might think. If the times are that bad then, why was there healthy demand to put life back into the building ? Service..
